HSCI Introduction to RNA-Seq Analysis Workshop - November 13th
Date and time
Location
Countway Library, Room 403
10 Shattuck St Boston, MA 02115Description
RNA-Seq is replacing microarrays as a tool to study transcriptome changes using high-throughput sequencing approaches. The ability to read cDNA sequences directly makes it possible to study non-model organisms as well as model organisms with unprecedented sensitivity and reproducibility. This introductory workshop will cover best practices for quality control, read alignment, and expression analysis using RNA-Seq data.
No prior programming experience or command line training is required.
Who should attend?
Harvard researchers affiliated with the Harvard Stem Cell Institute who:
• are generating or hope to generate RNA-Seq data
• want to use a simple, graphical interface to analyze their results
• want to analyze their results in a reproducible fashion
Format and Schedule
Format: This workshop introduces basic concepts and illustrates an end-to-end data analysis workflow through live tutorials using the Galaxy analytical framework. At the end of this activity, participants will have a good understanding of experimental design for RNA-Seq experiments, and the tools employed in analyzing RNA-Seq data for differential gene expression. They will also be able to use the Galaxy interface to analyze their data without using the command line, and understand how to set up their own Galaxy server on Amazon’s EC2 environment.
Schedule: 9am - 5pm (includes a break for lunch* and short breaks in the morning and afternoon)
* Lunch will not be provided, but there are a number of cafeterias and restaurants in the immediate vicinity
Cost and payment procedure
There is a $50 registration fee for this workshop. Once you sign up on eventbrite, we will check your eligibility (see the Requirements section below) and send you an email with a link to the payment website. Please make sure you pay within the time stated in that email, else you will lose your spot to someone on the waitlist.
You will be registered for this event only once you have paid the $50.
Requirements
Participants must be Harvard Stem Cell Institute-affiliated researchers. Preference will be given to participants who are conducting or planning studies using RNA-Seq data.
